THE Co-operative Insurance Society (CIS) has appointed Bryan Portman as its new Executive Director, Finance and Investment Management.

Mr Portman, 55, has a wealth of experience in the financial services industry most recently at the Britannic Group and Old Mutual Life Assurance, where he held the position of Chief Executive.

It was announced previously that Chris Hirst, Executive Director Investment Management at CIS, would be retiring in 2005.

Mervyn Pedelty, Chief Executive of Co-operative Financial Services, said: `Bryan is joining CIS at an important stage in its history. We are delighted to have secured his services because he has a wealth of experience in the insurance and life and savings businesses.`
