OXFORD, Swindon & Gloucester Co-op has been short-listed in two categories as finalists in the Orange-sponsored National Business Awards, Midlands and East of England Region.

The society&#039s Retail Group has been nominated for the Best Use of Technology Award for their development of Radio Frequency (RF) networks in their stores.

This is used to power and facilitate in-store? systems such as the latest inventory management systems for stock and waste control applications.

RF also provides support for other initiatives including barcode label printing for short-coded stock, network infrastructures for store tills, email and other IT services used by store employees and store managers.

Overall, OSG stores use more RF supported store procedures than any other similar retailer.

The society has also reached the finals of the Regional National Business Awards under the heading &#039Orange Award for Bright Business&#039 with its newest business group, imagine co-operative childcare? which was launched last year and now runs five day nurseries across its trading area with more to follow.

Imagine co-operative childcare was short-listed for showing innovation in its
branding and business model.

The co-op was also highly commended in the People Development Award.

Neil Homer, head of corporate development at OSG, said: `We are delighted to be finalists for these awards, as we believe they reflect
our commitment to innovation in managing our co-operative brand and our operations to create new customer benefits.`

The national awards ceremony will take place in Nottingham on July 13th.
