WEST Midlands Co-op Chief Executive Ben Reid has picked up a prestigious award at the annual Business in the Community awards ceremony, held at Hagley Hall, Worcestershire.

His dedicated work for regeneration in the region has earned him the West Midlands HRH Prince of Wales Ambassador Award, which was presented in recognition of his commitment to improve the quality of life for people in the region.

Mr Reid has chaired Business in the Community in the West Midlands since December 2001, reshaping the leadership team and overseeing impressive growth in activity, company engagement and membership.

Initially supporting the All Saints area of Wolverhampton after attending a ?Seeing is Believing&#039 visit in 1997, he went on to lead a similar event in 1999 before becoming Chair of the Regional Leadership Team in 2001.

"Being presented with this award is a great honour," he said. "Business in the Community has introduced a number of initiatives that fit well with at West Midlands Co-op&#039s co-operative values and principles.

"Working with Business in the Community has had a positive impact on the way we operate as well as helping the communities we serve."
In making this award, Business in the Community said: "Ben has brought private sector thinking to help steer major regeneration programmes in the Black Country, and in addition now chairs the Learning and Skills Council helping to deliver social and economic benefit to the people in these communities."
