GOVERNMENT Minister Andrew Smith praised the vision and commitment of Oxford, Swindon & Gloucester Co-op when he launched the society's first purpose-built imagine childcare nursery in Rose Hill, Oxford, last week.
Mr Smith, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and MP for Oxford East, told guests at the official opening of the £ 900,000 facility that OSG deserves to be congratulated on its approach to childcare provision.
"There are real strengths to a mutual approach to childcare. Trust is crucial to parents' confidence in childcare and trust is something the Co-operative Movement is well placed to provide with its commitment to the interests of members and the community."
He added: "Oxford, Swindon and Gloucester Co-op deserve to be congratulated. They have not only imagined co-operative childcare, but turned it into reality. It's a practical vision which I hope others will be inspired to follow."
