NOTTINGHAM'S monthly farmers' market at the Wollaton Co-op is to continue following overwhelming support from shoppers.
Thousands visited the three trial markets in the Co-op car park, which offered an average of 15 stalls, selling a wide range of products including English wines, preserves, organic fruit and vegetables, cheese, venison, ostrich meat and free range eggs.
Organised by the Co-operative Group and the Nottinghamshire Farmers' Association, the market will be held on the first Saturday of each month from 9am to 1pm.
"There is tremendous support in the area for the farmers' market; people like the products and like to support their local farmers. As the Co-operative Group is committed to supporting local producers and the communities it serves, we are delighted we can provide a venue and help organise the market,` said senior co-operative affairs officer April Armstrong.
The Group conducted a survey of shoppers at two of the trial markets and the top reasons for visiting were to support local farmers and to buy good quality products and organic produce.
