WEST MIDLANDS Co-op Chief Executive Ben Reid has picked up a special award from Black Country Chamber to mark his achievements over the past nine years in charge of the Walsall-based society and recognising his various other roles within the community.

Mr Reid is currently chairman of the Black Country Consortium, the Walsall Urban Regeneration Company and the Black Country Learning and Skills Council.

Brian Lowe, chairman of Black Country Chamber, said: "For the first time, we thought it appropriate to recognise the efforts and achievements of one individual who stands out above all others in his service to the community.

"Success in running a business is a sufficient challenge for most, but Ben Reid excels not only in taking his organisation to new levels of performance, but he also gives full-blooded commitment to the community and raising money for charitable causes ."

The award was presented during the Black Country Chamber and Business Link&#039s Business Enterprise Awards 2003.

Said Mr Reid: "I accept this award on behalf of West Midlands Co-op. It is a great honour to be recognised by Black Country Chamber and I hope that a sense of community awareness continues to grow in businesses throughout the region."
