THE Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, has officially opened the newly refurbished Clyde Shopping Centre, owned by Co-operative Insurance Society (CIS).
Simon Butler, Chairman of CIS, escorted the Queen on her tour of the centre which has been transformed from a tired 1970s-style shopping precinct into a modern fully enclosed mall offering an attractive environment in which to shop.
During her 30-minute visit, the Queen also met CIS Chief Operating Officer Finian O'Boyle; Executive Director Chris Hirst; David Ellis; Principal Surveyor ? Management and Philip White, Principal Surveyor ? Technical Services.
The Clyde Centre is one of five shopping centres owned and managed by CIS as part of its property investment portfolio.
A special guest at the official opening was Hilary Chatterton, widow of CIS Project Manager Steve Chatterton, who was working on the refurbishment when he tragically died two years ago.
