THE country&#039s most experienced Sikh Funeral Director has joined West Midlands Co-op to lead the society&#039s Asian funeral division.
Five years ago, Gurpreet Singh became the first Sikh Funeral Director in the UK, and now he joins the Walsall-based society having worked for the Asian Funeral Directors since 1998.
Working as a Community Funeral Director he will be based in Tipton, from where he will organise and expand the society&#039s services for ethnic minorities across the West Midlands.
The funeral division aims to spread its Asian funeral expertise to branches in West Bromwich, Wolverhampton and Walsall over the coming months.
Gurpreet (pictured) said: `My role is to help all the communities throughout the West Midlands, but in particular the Asian community, by offering them a service that they can trust and identify with and feel comfortable using.
"The Tipton branch will start the ball rolling with a new identity that will appeal to the local ethnic communities."
Funeral Services Controller Simon Fisher added: "This appointment will make a significant improvement in the service that we can offer to the Asian communities all around the West Midlands."
