THE adventurous Chief Executive of West Midlands Co-op is gearing up for his toughest charity challenge yet ? a 10-day trek on Peru's Inca Trail to the ancient city of Machu Picchu.
Ben Reid will be raising money for the children's charity Whizz-Kidz, in October. His target is to beat the £ 13,000 he raised last year on a 150-mile trek of the Great Wall of China.
He said: "The Inca Trail is one of the great sites of the ancient world that still exists today. I'm very excited about seeing Machu Picchu but also about raising money to benefit disabled children while I do so.
"It will be a huge physical challenge ? especially at such an altitude. Having included the London Marathon as part of my training this year I've been working hard to get fit enough for the trek."
Machu Picchu, the "Lost City of the Incas" is over 11,500ft above sea level.
A group of 20 people from across the UK will join the Whizz-Kidz team, spending five days acclimatising before tackling the trail. They will reach almost 14,000ft on one of the world's most spectacular walking routes, taking the group above the clouds and through high rainforest areas.
