THE Co-operative Bank's internet arm, smile, is celebrating a hat-trick of success after being voted the top bank for customer service by Which? magazine and winning no fewer than eight different honours at two award ceremonies in just two weeks.
Ninety-one per cent of Consumers' Association members who have a smile account said they were very satisfied with the service compared with three of the big four banks where just 30 to 36 per cent of their customers are very satisfied.
This massive endorsement follows news that smile has won five awards from the specialist financial magazine Your Money. Earlier this month the bank also received three awards at the Guardian/Observer Consumer Finance Awards
The Your Money Direct Awards saw smile chosen as Best Internet Banking Provider; Best Internet Credit Card Provider; Best Internet Savings Provider; Best Internet ISA Provider and Best Internet Personal Loan Provider.
Mike Collins, Editor of Your Money magazine, writing in a special awards brochure, described smile as a bank that is open, ethical and genuinely modern.
"The excellent range of products offers real sustainable value. It will inform customers of any changes to be applied to their account and explain money matters that affect them.
"An excellent effort and a breath of fresh air from our best on-line bank by a mile," he concluded.
Meanwhile at the recent Guardian/Observer awards smile was chosen as Best Current Account Provider (On-line), Best Credit Card Provider and it also won the ultimate honour of Best Customer Service Overall. It was also short-listed in the Best Savings Account Provider category.
Mervyn Pedelty, Chief Executive of Co-operative Financial Services, said: "This is another great performance by smile. To have been recognised in this way by three independent journals is testimony to what is being achieved by smile.
"I would like to congratulate everyone associated with smile on this hat-trick of success."
