TRAVELCARE has been named Leisure Travel Agent of the Year at the 2003 Agent Achievement Awards ? the travel world&#039s answer to the Oscars.

Travelcare, part of the Co-operative Group, picked up the award at the prestigious event, sponsored by leading trade magazine, Travel Weekly.

The travel agency beat off stiff competition from Thomas Cook, Going Places and Travel Choice to win the premier award.

The award was the climax to a memorable evening for Travelcare, which was also named Regional Travel Agent of the Year for North West and North Wales and Regional Travel Agent of the Year for Northern Ireland.

Amanda Williams, general manager for Travelcare, the UK&#039s largest independent travel agency, commented: `This is the first time we have won the Leisure Travel Agent of the Year Award, which is a reflection of the hard work and commitment of the whole Travelcare team.

`Staff throughout all our regions can be proud of this achievement, but those working in Northern Ireland, the North Wales and the North West can be particularly proud of their contribution after their success in picking up the regional awards.`

She added: `We are working through difficult times in the travel business at the moment, but achievements like this show that Travelcare remains as strong as ever.`
