In a recent posting, I covered the sustainability scan that the International Co-operative Alliance has launched with the services of the Sustainability Solutions Group (SSG) out of Canada. This scan is an essential foundational initiative of our Blueprint for a Co-operative Decade and is designed to give us all an overview of the current state of sustainability among co-operatives. The Blueprint describes sustainability as “the integration of environmental, economic, and social dimensions towards global stewardship and responsible management of resources”.
SSG has just launched the crowd-sourcing component of the scan, a new online platform that will use the “wisdom of the crowd” to highlight the efforts by co-operatives to address sustainability. We encourage you to go online to describe how your co-operative is addressing sustainability at www.sustainability.coop, but be sure to do so by 5 October. We will be reporting on the preliminary findings of the scan at our Global Conference in Cape Town, South Africa, 2-5 November.
