“When Rosy Herrera, owner of San Francisco Mission District restaurant Maya Luna, found herself on the verge of closing, she adjusted her approach and recreated the restaurant as a worker-owned cooperative. Now, Maya Luna provides eight owners the opportunity to work independently, inspire community, and sustain a local business at a time when high rents are driving them away. For Rosy, the cooperative brings a great sense of pride, relief and joy. As she says in the video, “I’m very happy. People cannot imagine the happiness I feel in my heart.””

Donate to the Maya Luna indiegogo fund to help with start-up costs.

Support for the project comes from PODER, which has previously worked with Arizmendi Bakery and other cooperatives.
