As 2013 dawns and we move forward into the co-operative decade our challenge now is to build the co-op message and secure the co-op identity to differentiate our way of doing business from the alternatives. It’s also an opportunity to develop a common symbol to unite the movement for the decade and beyond. The UN’s gift of our International Year 2012 provided the opportunity to raise awareness about co-operatives and their contribution to socio-economic development. The official UN logo and tagline was embraced across the globe as a unifying flag to rally around – a common identity – providing a sense of belonging with shared values regardless of national boundaries – developing a new common symbol is a very exciting prospect!
