2012 has been an amazing year for co-operators, with thousands upon thousands of people gathering for events in countries around the world — all in the name of co-operation.
The United Nations International Year of Co-operatives was launched at the UN’s New York City headquarters on 31 October 2011 and has been celebrated by world leaders as well as grassroots activists.
At the International Co-operative Alliance’s General Assembly on 31 October 2012, our President Dame Pauline Green shared some of her fondest memories of this Year: “This UN International Year of Co-operatives has been a fabulous year, as I visited the movement across the world, I can’t help being struck by the impact. The impact of the logo and slogan, Co-operatives Build a Better World. It adds to our values, it adds publicly who we are. Never before in its history has the Co-operative Movement globally come together around a single logo and slogan, we have never been as cohesive as we are now.”
