Black Star Co-op’s member-owners approved Ends Policies for the Co-op to help guide our actions and policy A.2.2 requires us to “provide financial and member service support to charitable/community service organizations selected by the membership.” (That’s a pretty awesome policy!) During the last Co-op election, the membership voted on four charitable organizations to support in the upcoming year. In 2012 we’ll work with the following organizations: The People’s Community Clinic of Austin, SafePlace Austin, Sustainable Food Center, and Cooperation Texas (formally Third Coast Workers for Cooperation).

This month, we are happy to support Cooperation Texas! Founded in October 2009 in response to growing economic inequality, Cooperation Texas is an Austin-based non-profit committed to the creation of sustainable jobs through the development, support and promotion of worker-owned cooperatives. Cooperation Texas is the only worker cooperative development center in Texas providing education, training and technical assistance to existing and start-up worker cooperatives in all sectors of the economy.

You can help launch and strengthen businesses across Texas that put people and the planet first. From March 19-25 we’re donating one dollar for every pint of High Esteem purchased in the brewpub. Help support the cooperative economy in Texas, and have a beer while you’re at it!
