This beautiful story was submitted to the Global News Hub by Nakazibwe Ritah from Centenary Bank, Uganda on the occasion of International Women’s Day....
“My grandfather passed away when my father had just finished primary school
(elementary school). by then cooperatives where booming in Uganda.as a widow,
my grandmother was determined to see my Dad attend school just like any
other kid. she would at the beginning of the school term, get her raw coffee
and take it to the cooperative stores in return for an IOU note which was an
assurance to the school authorities that school dues would be paid off when
the coffee was sold. she did that diligently and saw my father through to
university.
On my graduation day, my father was the happiest because he was able to see
me through school singlehandedly. i am educated and now a banker, but i
wouldnt have done that if my father had become illiterate. Am now able to
fend for myself and amnot helpless. I am empowered and emmancipated.” To read more stories like these visit: www.thenews.coop/iwd
