The United Nations has given us a very special gift – it’s the eve of the International Year of Co-operatives, and OUR opportunity to tell the world what we know – that co-operatives are successful, innovative, values based businesses owned by their members. Let’s not squander this opportunity. One billion people are members of co-operatives globally, 100 million people work for co-ops. 2011 has been a year of revolutions and riots, economic crises and austerity. We’re not saying that co-operatives are the whole answer – but together let’s have the debate, let’s raise public awareness of the co-operative model and together let’s shout about how “co-operative enterprises build a better world”!
