First of all, congratulations fellow interns on being half way through your internship! 6 months really does fly by quickly. With summer starting the time is just going to fly by that much more quickly. A side note: does anybody else find it’s a bit harder to concentrate with the weather being so gorgeous? Luckily I get to do some outdoor work on the community garden every now and then which allows me to escape the confines of the office.
If you are truly Canadian, you want to get out and experience the warm weather before winter roles around again (which is like mid October these days). If this is the case, the average 7-hour workday may start feel more like weeks or months. So I have created this formula for everyone to figure out how long you actually feel you are working.
So interns, take your usual 7 hours
Add two hours if the weather is extremely nice or extremely miserable
How much sleep did you get last night? If 8 is the norm, add 15 minutes for every hour of sleep you missed. (For example if you missed 3 hours of sleep add on 45 minutes).
If you are working with paperwork/ filing for more than half a day tack on another 2 hours
If you spend your time talking to people for more than half an hour, minus 2 hours. **This is conditional on the person, if the person is difficult add half an hour
Minus 15 minutes for every energy drink/ coffee you have.
Add one hour if you have exciting plans after work.
Add one hour if it is Friday.
I hope that this is helpful for everyone. Just don’t put the number you get from this equation on your timesheets for Audrey.
Though I find it a bit hard to concentrate with the nice weather, I really am enjoying my time at Country Hills. The community garden has been a bit of a bumpy road, but I think we are finally on the right track. Summer also brings lots of opportunity to host barbecues and socials for the members of my housing co-operative. I am currently working on a big summer party and outdoor movie nights for the children in the co-operative.
With just three more months to go, I hope everyone is having a blast (and you are able concentrate during the summer months).
