Domains.coop to cease hosting services

The discontinuation will only affect the hosting and email services and not domain registrations

Domains.coop will no longer be able to support email and hosting services, including website builders, from 1 May.

Co-ops using Domains.coop for these services will have to look for alternative providers. Those having a domain registered with domains.coop, but without an email or hosting product purchased through the organisation, will not be not affected.

Domains.coop said it can no longer support these services because its email and hosting provider is discontinuing these products.

In a statement to service users, it also confirmed that the discontinuation of two of its services will only affect the hosting and email services – and not domain registrations.

“Domains.coop’s first recommendation was to transition these customers to an ICANN-accredited .coop registrar, for an immediate continuation of service,” said the statement.

“We do understand that co-operators may want to keep their web services within the co-operative movement.”

Domains.coop is asking service providers which are structured as a co-operative, and accredited co-operatives involved in web hosting or email provisioning, to submit their credentials to be added to its list of recommended partners.

Co-ops wishing to learn more about their options can contact Finn McCullagh at [email protected].
