Mountain Equipment Co-op uses digital signage to improve in-store experience

The retailer will display content using interactive screens in stores

Canada’s Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) is looking to enhance customers’ retail experience by introducing digital signage across its outlets.

The retailer is placing interactive screens in its stores, which use touchscreen hardware and enhanced content management software. It has partnered with Cineplex Digital Media, a digital signage and experiential media agency, on the initiative.

With support from Cineplex, MEC will provide customer support and develop a customer-first content strategy that engages shoppers throughout their visits to the stores, giving information on upcoming products and events.

CDM has already installed an 86in touch overlay screen at MEC’s flagship store in Toronto, which opened last month, and the retailer plans to expand the new features to another 20 stores across Canada over the coming months.

“We are so excited to partner with MEC, one of Canada’s leading home-grown retailers, on this ambitious national project,” said Fab Stanghieri, executive vice president and general manager, Cineplex Digital Media.

“MEC’s mission to provide co-op members with not only outdoor gear, but the community and know-how to make the most of it, matches perfectly with our digital media capabilities. We are happy to help support getting Canadians outdoors and exploring Canada’s natural wonders.”

“MEC exists to support people, to help them be active and enjoy the benefits of outdoor recreation,” said George Bevan, director of store development at MEC. “We’re thrilled that MEC’s new partnership with Cineplex Digital Media helps us deepen engagement with our members as they plan their next outdoor adventure.”
