The Co-operative Childcare ended 2016 on a high after picking up two prestigious industry awards from Nursery Management Today (NMT).

The society, which won Nursery Operations Manager and Nursery Recruitment Initiative at the ceremony, also notched up good or outstanding Ofsted scores across all of its estate.

A third of the 48 nurseries operated by the business – part of the Midcounties Co-operative – are now rated outstanding.

The Nursery Operations Manager award went to Sally Mayer, head of nurseries, who worked on strategies to bring all of the co-op’s nurseries up to the Ofsted good or outstanding score.

She said: “Our sole focus is to continually drive the quality of the childcare we offer. We’re always working with colleagues across the nurseries to identify ways to improve.

“It’s the efforts of colleagues across the country that have enabled us to secure the Good and Outstanding Ofsted ratings across all of our nurseries, and I’m incredibly proud to be part of such a committed and enthusiastic team.”

The Nursery Recruitment Initiative award went to  the Co-operative Childcare’s partnership program with ten colleges nationwide to improve learning and development in trainees. NMT praise the society for facing qualification challenges in the sector head on.

Mike Abbott, group general manager at the Co-operative Childcare, said: “A lot of hard work goes into ensuring our practitioners are able to provide the very best care and learning opportunities to our nursery children and pre-schoolers. To be recognised for our efforts through these awards is a true testament to the commitment and passion of our team.”
