Easter Sunday is only a few weeks away – so for the second Co-operative News taste-test we looked at Easter eggs! Without knowing which was which, out taste-testers scored the eggs on aroma, texture and taste, and let us know what they thought of each…

We say: The milk chocolate egg with the strongest aroma, and a soft, creamy texture.
Divine raspberry 70% dark chocolate egg (vegan, 100g)
Fairtrade ingredients: Sugar, cocoa, vanilla (96%)

We say: Dark cocoa and tangy fruit combined for a beautiful aroma and distinctive flavour – the raspberries offset the bitterness perfectly and made it another favourite with our tasters.

Fairtrade ingredients: Sugar, cocoa, honey, vanilla (72%)
Extras: Four milk chocolate and honey truffles (made with Fairtrade Chilean honey)

We say: Lovely aroma, and the honeycomb pieces within the shell gave a brilliant texture and a balanced sweetness.
Cocoa Loco organic marbled chocolate chicken (200g)
Fairtrade ingredients: Sugar, cocoa, vanilla (84%)

We say: Delicious flavour – the marbled white chocolate made this one of the sweetest samples in our selection.
Green and Black’s organic dark collection (365g, vegan)
Fairtrade ingredients: Cocoa, sugar, molasses and vanilla (93%)
Extras: Two large dark chocolate bars (one crystallised ginger, one butterscotch)

We say: A smooth dark chocolate with a bitter-sweet, lingering aftertaste.

Fairtrade ingredients: Cocoa, sugar, molasses, vanilla (72%)

We say: The contrast of soft chocolate and butterscotch pieces were hugely popular, another firm favourite – and the one everyone went back to for more.

We say: This was one of the chunkiest eggs we tasted. Munchable thick chocolate with a great lingering taste.

We say: Really creamy chocolate offset by crunchy biscuit pieces – the texture made this a huge hit with our tasters.

We say: A great flavour and texture, with the sweet toffee and tangy salt providing a lovely contrast to the smooth milk chocolate.

We say: Smooth and bitter with fruity notes and a lovely flavour – definitely one for dark chocolate lovers.
