SHOPPERS spend a fifth of their money on food and grocery in convenience stores according to food and grocery think tank Institute of Grocery and Distribution. In its report into convenience stores it said the sector is now worth £ 23.9 billion, up 5 per cent on 2004, and is outperforming the total grocery market, which grew by 4.2 per cent in the same period. It discovered consumers spend 20p of every pound spent on groceries in c-stores.
