Global News600 jobs to go at Co-op Group HQ

THE Co-operative Group is entering into consultations with trade unions representing staff at its Manchester headquarters over the implementation of a major restructuring plan, which will see around 600 jobs go over the next two years. The Group - which reported a disappointing financial performance during 2004 with sales and profits both down - has carried out a review of its head office functions and costs as part of a programme to drive future business performance.

A FORMER well known Co-operative Union official has died after being hit by a car whilst walking near his home at Romiley, near Stockport. Frank Dugdale, 70, was crossing a road with his wife, June, when the accident happened on Tuesday evening. Mr Dugdale, formerly Chief Industrial Relations Officer at the Union's (now Co-operatives UK) Manchester headquarters, was pronounced dead at the scene.
