GhanaCo-op highlights Fairtrade effect on Ghana

THE Co-op commitment to Fairtrade has been highlighted in a national television news programme. Brad Hill, the Co-operative Group's consumer policy development manager, Food Retail, was featured on the Tonight With Trevor McDonald programme, which was transmitted on ITV on 5th May. Mr Hill and Michelle Vernon, the Group's Public Relations Manager – Food, travelled to Ghana over Easter with Tonight's presenter Linda Duberley.

SALES of Fairtrade products rocketed at Co-op Group stores over the recent Fairtrade Fortnight promotion. Brad Hill, the Group's Consumer Policy Development Manager, Food Retail, told www.thenews.coop: "The Co-op remains the dominant force in Fairtrade with Movement-wide sales reaching £ 31million last year. This represents a grocers' market share of around 25% despite competitors now responding at last to our own campaigning and market-building over the past few years.
