SGF Chief Executive John Drummond said: “This Bill would give the Scottish Government sweeping powers to impose legislation. The Federation is concerned that the lack of detail will prohibit the Scottish Parliament from properly scrutinising measures that will have a huge impact on the trade and consumers.”
He added that proposals to curb drinks promotions in stores would penalise those who drink responsibly and suggested the proposed change would damage the competitiveness of Scottish retailers.
“If the Government is serious about addressing Scotland’s relationship with alcohol it should enforce existing legislation and address the underlying cultural issues that cause Scots to abuse alcohol,” he concluded.
