CO-OP food stores have pulled own-brand products from shelves after a cancer-dye scare.
Co-op Brand, on behalf of the Co-operative Group, issued the recall from stores across all retail societies.
The spice, supplied by Bart Spices, contained a potentially cancer-causing colourant called Para Red.
Para Red is an illegal dye similar to Sudan 1, which prompted a massive food scare earlier this year causing hundreds of products to be withdrawn from sale. For the full list of Co-op products affected see below.
The Food Standards Agency raised its concerns and said that it would be "prudent to assume that Para Red could be a carcinogen".
A spokeswoman for Co-op Brand said: "We are working with our suppliers to identify any use of ingredients that may have been affected by Para Red.
"To that end, we have contacted all suppliers whose products use ingredients such as chilli and paprika. To date, only five Co-op brand products appear to be implicated and, as a precautionary measure, we are withdrawing these from sale.
"Customers are advised to return the affected Co-op products to any Co-op store where they will receive a full cash refund or a replacement pack."
