Co-operatives in Japan have set up a task force to help those affected by the country's earthquake and subsequent tsunami.

Southern Co-operatives’ annual international donation has this year has gone to the International Co-operative Alliance-supported Global Appeal for the Victims of Earthquake in China.


A £50,000 donation is to be sent to Burma from the Co-operative Group to provide relief to up to one million Burmese people made homeless by Cyclone Nargis.  The society is also accepting donations at its food store checkouts to allow customers and staff to respond directly to appeals for immediate aid.
