New ZealandSEZ board rejects Iffco proposal for dairy

Board of Approvals for Special Economic Zones (SEZ) has rejected the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (Iffco) proposal to set up an integrated dairy project in its Kisan SEZ in Nellore District in the State. The entity will be knocking the doors of the Ministry of Commerce to reconsider the decision, according to a senior Iffco official. The board’s move may hamper Iffco’s ambitious project involving around Rs 1,000 crore.

Capricorn Society Limited, Australia, has appointed Greg Wall as the new Group Chief Executive Officer, effective from August 22, 2011. Mr Wall replaces the incumbent CEO Trent Bartlett, who held the position of CEO of the organisation from 2001 to June 2011. Since June, Mr Bartlett has acted as a Special Consultant to the Capricorn Group to ensure a smooth transition to the appointment of the new Group CEO.

New ZealandIs a cooperative just a tribe?

Agricultural cooperatives, it was recently suggested to me, are about tribalism, and are therefore anachronistic. I believe this was directed at the dairy industry where most of the new processing companies are not cooperatives. Applying this logic to a review of New Zealand’s primary industry, one would have to conclude that dairy farmers and kiwifruit growers are somehow inherently more “tribal” than, for example, beef farmers or apple growers.
