The video presentations and slides from the 2012 Meeting of Reinsurance Officials, held May 2-4 in Paris, France are now available on the conference web site.
We would like to thank all those who joined us, and are delighted to report that initial analysis of feedback suggests that this MORO has surpassed previous events in terms of the quality of agenda and presentations and the business relationships fostered and maintained.
Addressing delegates with his keynote speech, Paddy Jago, President of Willis Re, said: “You (mutuals) are product focused and know your market, but the competition will fight your knowledge with their price.”
Jago asserted that reinsurance should not restrict the coverage offered by mutuals, arguing that a mutual’s targets and goals are so different from the ‘for profit’ competition, and therefore reinsurers need to adopt a tailored approach that will better suit them.
“Mutuals are so commendable,” he said. “The team ethos and club environment, which is often born out of adversity…That you are there to serve your policyholders…that resonates. “
He added: “Willis Re set up a mutual division specifically to better understand and to take care of the needs of our mutual and co-operative clients. Our relationship with ICMIF as one of their supporting members underlines that commitment. The best way for us to anticipate the challenges faced by a mutual, and to work with them to find solutions through reinsurance, is undoubtedly to maintain a close relationship with ICMIF and their members.”
A number of our other supporting members were also present at the event, namely A.M. Best, Clyde & Co, PartnerRe and Risk Dynamics. A PDF of an interview that we conducted at the conference with Risk Dynamics’ CEO, Dominique Bourrat will be available later this month.
We encourage you to take a look at the range of valuable services offered by all of our supporting members. They have dedicated time and effort to understanding our industry and because they understand us, we believe that they are very well placed to be great strategic partners for us all.
And finally we would also encourage members to join the reinsurance-related, and other community forums on the ICMIF web site. There you have the ability to post topics and comment on issues that are common to our mutual and cooperative organizations.
As Paddy said, we have a team ethos. We have naturally created a club environment. So let’s continue to collaborate after the conferences via our forums and discussion groups.
