Edwin Poots, Environment Minister in the Northern Ireland Assembly Executive, has given his backing to the proposed multi-million pound investment and said the superstore plans will provide a welcome contribution to retail facilities in Larne and could help create up to 300 full-time jobs in the town.
Said Mr Poots: “This development will help to regenerate Larne and provide much needed better quality retail facilities to local people. Furthermore, it will provide job security during the current economic climate.
“This multi-million pound investment will bring with it around 100 construction jobs and hundreds more retail jobs. It is yet another indication of the confidence investors have in Northern Ireland. The retail facility will more than double in size providing some 5,600sqm of floorspace and will incorporate car parking facilities.”
The Department of the Environment is currently consulting Larne Borough Council on its opinion regarding the Group’s application.
