THE East of England Co-operative Society has come to the rescue of a Frinton based charity after they lost all their goods in a recent fire.

Haven in Romania had spent six months collecting items to send to Romania at the end of July. They were storing the items at a unit in the Cowdray Centre in Colchester, when a fire broke out, destroying everything they had collected.

Following a plea for help, the Society stepped in and provided £ 500 of products, including washing powder, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, biscuits and sweets. Miriam Harrup, Communications and Community Manager, for the East of England Co-operative Society said: "When we heard that the charity had lost all that they had worked so hard to collect we were delighted to step in and help."

Karin Holland and Brian Cook from the Frinton Fiveways Supermarket handed over the goods to Paul Woods, Carrie Hughes and Ceri Townsend from Fusion with Romania (also from Frinton) and Betty Wood and Sylvia Brown from Haven in Romania. The representatives from Fusion with Romania will be travelling to the country to help distribute the products.
