NCBA CLUSA International is making a difference in Senegal through the United States Agency for International Development-funded Yaajeende project, according to a feature article in USAID's Frontlines magazine. The article, written by NCBA CLUSA’s Todd Crosby, highlights the importance of linking community-based service providers and the private sector, establishing better food security in one of the world’s most food-insecure locations.
This innovative project works to increase the amounts of nutritious foods being grown in these target zones, and improve the ability of the local people to use those foods to their maximum benefit. Rather than give handouts to local communities, the project improves the ability of private-sector companies to provide better products and services to these isolated areas, effectively producing a model of self-sustainability.
