The business section of Canada';s most prestigious national newspaper, the Globe and Mail,has published a special four-page report on co-operatives in celebration of Co-op Week.
The report, entitled "The co-operative advantage", includes articles on the distinctiveness of the co-op model, co-op sustainability and corporate citizenship, the efforts by co-ops in Canada's North to promote Inuit and Dene art, the 2014 International Summit of Cooperatives and the lobbying efforts of housing co-ops. There is also a column by Denyse Guy, executive director of the Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA), on the Blueprint for a Co-operative Decade and its relevance to the co-operative movement in Canada.
The report was published in partnership with CCA and funded by advertising from Federated Co-operatives Limited, Desjardins Group, Arctic Co-operatives Limited and the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada.
This is the third special report on co-operatives published by the Globe and Mail over the past two years in partnership with Canada's co-operative movement. The first two were during the 2012 International Year of Co-operatives.
Another Globe special report, dealing specifically with credit unions, is scheduled for early November.
Co-op Week is an annual celebration of co-operatives in Canada, taking place this year from October 13-19.
