The store his fitted to a high specification with energy-efficient chillers, freezers and lighting. The layout uses low-level fixtures and wide aisles to provide a spacious environment with plenty of natural light.

The product range goes beyond the typical convenience offering with an instore bakery and hot food to go, Costa Coffee Express and a local supplier range including Jon Thorners homemade pies, quiches pasties

There are extensive fresh and chilled ranges plus all the usual grocery items and services such as 24-hour ATM, Lottery and PayPoint. Ample free parking includes disabled bays.

Pupils from the neighbouring Castle Mead primary school cut the ribbon to open the store on 18 January before taking a tour of the shop. A cheque for £300 was presented to head of school Tracey Boulton,

Radstock chief executive Don Morris said: “I am delighted that we have secured this particular site. It means that for the first time we have extended our geographical trading area from Somerset into another county.

“We are approaching our 150th anniversary in 2018, and remain committed to growing the retail estate to ensure the society is sustainable for future generations.”
