Central England Co-operative has given out over £70,000 to community groups across the region.

The latest round of awards from the Community Dividend Fund, given out every three months, saw 30 groups share £70,224.

Grants include new beds and mattresses for Melton Mowbray and District Scout Council, chairs for Erdington Methodist Church and replacement windows for Wycliffe Bowls Club.

Dunton Bassett Primary School is another recipient of the fund. Josephine Blackburn from the school said: “We would like to thank Central England Co-operative for this vital money. It will be used towards an outdoor classroom which will give us a new and stimulating learning environment for the children to enjoy.”

home-carousel-logoThe Community Dividend Fund supports charities and local groups across Central England’s trading area of 16 counties from the Midlands to the east coast. The fund guarantees that at least 1% of the society’s profits are reinvested in local communities.

Since being established in 2007, the scheme has donated over £2m to good causes.

Nicci Clarke, the society’s brand engagement manager, said: “One of the founding principles of the society is to give something back to our loyal customers by investing in and supporting local communities. Four times a year, many schemes benefit from awards that can be as much as £5,000. These are very worthwhile projects which bring long-term benefits to local people.”

Members of the society can apply for a Community Dividend award by filling in application forms available from any Central England Co-op store. They can also be completed and submitted online at https://communities.centralengland.coop.
